Nov 27, 2006 Workshop

2 demos from a figure painting workshop I was teaching after Weems. The top one is about simplifing the figure down to a light shape and a dark shape. The bottom one is the same sketch but the edge where the two shapes join has been modified. Sharp some places, hard others. The point of the excercise is to get the viewer to see a 3-D shape using only edge control.

Spent the weekend building a captains bed and putting in some floor to ceiling cabinets. Sharp corners on beds are good for scraping shins.

New Trick, Sorta

I don't want to clutter up the blog with a lot of text. But for any art geeks Fred Miller pointed out an interesting technical point to me. I'll stick it in the comment in case anyone else has run into the same problem.

Nov 2,2006

Set up and openning day for Weems Artfest. The posts are going to be out of order for a little bit. I started keeping a journal a few days before Josh suggested blogging them. So I'm going to post pictures from the show dated the actual days they happened. My better half, Josh, in the studio the night before. I recommend marring good roadies. Me in the booth preview night, lotsa caffine, not much sleep :-)

I like this pose. The plan was to have this as a demo painting at the Weems show. Something partially finished to work on in the booth.

I'm doing some post show catch up on my blog. Things get a wee bit crazy before a show.
